Benefits of Reciting the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Ashtak

  • Relief from troubles (sankat): As its name promises, the Ashtak is believed to remove obstacles, dangers, and sorrows from the devotee’s life.
  • Courage and confidence: Remembering Hanuman’s heroic deeds fills the heart with fearlessness before difficult tasks, exams, interviews, or journeys.
  • Protection from negative influences: Tradition holds that sincere recitation shields the home and family from evil forces and misfortune.
  • Spiritual merit: Tulsidas promises that the devotee who recites with faith has all noble works accomplished by Hanuman himself.
  • Calmness of mind: The rhythmic verses and stories of divine rescue bring peace to an anxious or restless mind.

When to Recite

The Ashtak is most commonly recited together with the Hanuman Chalisa — many devotees read the Chalisa first and follow it with the Ashtak. Tuesdays and Saturdays, the days sacred to Lord Hanuman, are considered especially auspicious. It may be recited in the morning after bathing, or in the evening during prayer time (sandhya). There is no rigid rule: what matters most is reciting with a clean heart, sincere devotion, and firm faith (nishchay prem prateeti).
